We all have a tendency to believe we will all live forever, and have no health issues. However, if you are a realist, you will ask yourself, "what will happen to my pets if I can no longer take care of them?"
This is why we all need a Pet Trust. With a Pet Trust you can designate who will care for your pets when you are no longer capable of caring for them. In the Pet Trust you state how they will care for them, who the Veterinarian is, what medication your pets are taking, and anything else you wish to delegate just as if you were still caring for them. Even what will happen to your pet after they pass away. You even allot an amount of money from your estate for their care.
A Pet Trust is a document which everyone with pets should have for the protection of your pets in the event you are incapacitated, or pass away. The Barkley Pet Trust will assist you in getting your Pet Trust established for you.
The purpose of the Pet Trust is to reach out to all the senior members of our community who have pets and create a document that will care for the pet in the absence of the senior owner.
Another purpose is to create a relationship with Veterinarians who will provide some services at a reduced cost to our Seniors, such as Spay & Neute

Also to implant identification chips into all the pets an owner has in the event the pet is lost so it can be found and returned to the senior owner.
Another purpose is to delineate what a senior owner wants for their pets in the event they pass or are incapacitated and a family member takes care of their pet animals, so the senior owner can be assured in knowing that their pets will be cared for by their family member in a way that they would also care for their pets.

This Company was started with the express goal of providing a service to our Senior Community who have pets to make sure those pets are taken care of at a time when their owners can no longer provide the care they want for their pets.
What we have seen is that when Seniors who have pets pass away, those pets have no place to go to live out the rest of their lives.
In most cases the "children" of the Seniors, who are themselves older adults in their 40s and 50s, have their own families, and their own pets, and do not wish to keep or take care of their parent's pets. So what do they do? Either they turn them over to a shelter (may be a no kill shelter) or just let those animals loose.
These older animals are harder to place in foster homes or be adopted as younger animals or puppies are. So what happens to these older pets?
This is where the Barkley Pet Trust comes in. We have noticed many programs for Veteran's animals for adoption or fostering of younger pets, veterinary services, food supply for pets, and many others, but the one thing we have not been able to find is any organization which caters to protecting Senior's pets when the seniors pass.
As an organization willing to take on this responsibility, we would donate a certain amount to make arrangements via the Pet Trust to leave a financial stipend for the care of their animals.
What is The Barkley Pet Trust? :
A Barkley Pet Trust is a sanctioned arrangement between a pet owner and a caretaker providing for the care and maintenance of pets in the event of an owner disability or death.
A Pet Trust is a vehicle approved by the Nevada Legislature (NRS 163.0075) which allows for pet owners to create a which dictates what your desires are for the care & protection of your pets.
A Pet Trust protects your pet in the future and your peace of mind right now.
A first objective in creating a Pet Trust is to designate a Caretaker of a pet, who will be willing to take full custody of the pet, is known to the pet, and shares the same ideals as the senior owner of the pet.
A second objective of a Pet Trust is to establish your wishes for the care of your pet. Trusts are established with a dollar amount in mind for the care of the pet. For example, food preferences, specialized care, veterinary expenses, grooming costs, pet habits, medical conditions & medications taken, behavior around other pets and humans, and it will also address end of live, and burial care for your pet.
A third objective of a Pet Trust is for you to address specific aspects of your pet's daily needs and care for the Caregiver. You may stipulate what foods to feed the pet. State their daily schedule for exercise and other daily activities. State the Pet's veterinarian. A Senior may even designate a separate Person to oversee the funds within your Pet Trust.
Remember that once you are out of the picture, there is nothing you can do for your pet anymore. So be prudent and put in writing everything you would do for your pet in your absence.
